The report on the evaluation of European judicial systems will be launched by the Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) on Wednesday 8 October at a Council of Europe press conference in Paris. The report, comprising data for 45 European states, provides the Council of Europe with a snapshot of justice in Europe. This unique process in Europe should enable decision-makers and the judicial community to understand the trends in judicial organisation, pinpoint the difficulties and help implement reforms to improve the efficiency of justice.

2balance110.jpg3rd plenary meeting of the Consultative Council of European Prosecutors (CCPE)
The 3rd plenary meeting of the Consultative Council of European Prosecutors (CCPE) will be held from 15 to 17 October 2008 in Strasbourg. During this meeting, the CCPE should adopt the draft Opinions on Alternatives to Prosecution and on the Role of Prosecutors beyond the Criminal Field.

ville.jpg3rd plenary meeting of the Network of Pilot courts
The 3rd plenary meeting of the pilot courts will be held on 24 October in Catania (Italy). On this occasion, a network of pilot courts of 2nd authority will also be set up and will hold its 1st meeting on 25 October. After the meeting on 24th October 2008, the European Commission and the Council of Europe will award the prize “Crystal Scales of Justice”.

2006trophy110.jpg“Crystal Scales of Justice” Award
The jury of the “Crystal Scales of Justice” Award, made up of European legal practitioners, will meet in Brussels on 2 October 2008 in order to short-list three projects among 38 applications from 15 European countries to compete for the “Crystal Scales of Justice” Award. The Prize is awarded by the Council of Europe and the European Commission in recognition of innovative practices contributing to the quality of civil justice. It will be awarded to one of the three projects short-listed on 24 October 2008 in Catania (Italy) on the occasion of the European Day of Civil Justice.
